As we have announced on our website, on 5 November 2016, in the North Carolina, USA, a meeting dedicated to Presov and the Presovian Rus’ took place. The speech was given by one of the participants of this year’s International Summer School of Rusyn Language and Culture Studium Carpato-Ruthenorum – Bonnie Kobec Burke. This time, the Carpatho-Rusyn Society invites for a similar event, partly within the same thematic area.
The organization’s affiliation in Georgia invites for Saturday, 12 November 2016, for further “visiting” of Presov and its area, within recollections from Studium Carpato-Ruthenorum. The same speaker will present her experience within a virtual walk through Presov, connected to this short research. A compulsory point will be a presentation of pictures from that time, as well as the beauty of the Carpathian nature, museums, Rusyn schools, institutions or historic wooden churches. As it was at the meetings in the North Carolina, also there the speaker may teach you some words in Rusyn.
Within the meeting, also a genealogical lecture by Chris Black will take place. He is experienced in genealogy as he has investigated many archival sources, he can also help you to understand the rules for discovering your ancestors, as well as establishing what your background is. The organizers announce that it is advisable to bring the copies of your family documents and letters – the speaker will try to translate and explain them. Here you can find materials on Presov and its meaning in the past and presently.
Similarly to the meeting in Georgia, the western affiliate of the Carpatho-Rusyn Society in the North Carolina invites for a whole-day training where you can learn to bake traditional Christmas cakes. There will also be a meeting in a Greek Catholic parish of St John the Baptist in Parma, where the participants will get to know the secrets of cooking Christmas dishes. For the details, watch Facebook pages of the events in Asheville (North Carolina) and Parma (Ohio).
