Pictures by one of the most eminent primitivist painters, a Rusyn from Krynica known all over the world – Epifan Drowniak, known as Nikifor Krynicki, will be soon exhibited in the Silesia. The Museum in Zabrze informed about the exhibition which will take place on 15 March 2017.
According to the museum, there are 23 pictures by Drowniak in the collection, they mainly present the landescape of the Krynica region. You can see there wooden churches that were often presented by Nikifor. As an inhabitant of Krynica, he often presented the place, the view of the resort and a big number of pensions that attracted guests from all over the Poland, as well as from abroad. The museum can be also proud of paintings that fragmentarily present the archiecture of Kraków, as well as two paintings with the appearances of Saints Josef and Nicolas.
The collection is only a small part of what has been created by the artist throughout his lifetime. Presumably (although it is not easy to count, as many of Nikifor’s works vanished for ever), the author painted several dozen watercolor paintings (and many other unfinished works) that he would often give away to the tourists who, at that time, did not appreciate the works of the Lemko genius and they would throw away his paintings.
The exhibition will be available until 29 April 2017.
