Culture centre will be renovated in the Rusyn Borov

In a Rusyn Borov, a village that has been part of Medzilaborce, located at the Labirska Dolina, the local culture centre will be renovated. The information was given by the Korzár daily, the renovation will be financed from the European fuds and the Medzilaborce self-government will contribute to the project with only less that 8 thousand euro.

As the mayor of Medzilaborce told the daily, the buidling is in a bad condition. The self-government has already applied for grant to modernize it but it was not successful. However, they succeeded to obtain the money. The entire cost of the renovation will be almost 150 thousand euro.

When Borov was a separate administrative entity, the village council would meet in the building, then it served the inhabitants only sporadically, at the time of some meetings or cultural actions. The modernization project aims for a general renovation. Within the project, the windows and door will be changed, as well as all the floors, the roof and the whole insulating system will be improved.

Some contemporary eminent Rusyn artists’s roots are from Labirska Dolina – the artists are present in the areas of our culture, they are present in the Rusyn media or deal with professional Rusyn theatre. Borov neighbours with Habura –  a village where a  memorial for Prince Laborec from 2014 is standing – a legendary Slavic hero of the end of the IXth century. From Habura you can go to Certizne that neighbours with the Lemko village of Cheremcha. There, among others, eminent Rusyn activists are buried, as for example Adolf Dobryanskyi (1817-1901; 2017 was announced as the year of Dobryanskyi) or Julij Stavrovskyi-Popradov (1850-1899). On the right side from Borov there is Mikova located  – a family village of  Andy Warhol’s parents – the king of pop-art.
