The Carpathians are magic. Everybody knows that – those who were born there, those who have them deep in their hearts. Most of all, Rusyns from the USA dream about the Carpathians. In fact, of all Rusyns scattered all over the world, it is them who have the longest way to go to reach the mother land.
Because of that, for 20 November 2016 at 3:30 PM, the Carpatho-Rusyn Society in the USA invites for a presentation which will take place in Virginia. It will be dedicated to magic beliefs of our ancestors who used to live in the Carpathians, their mother land. The meeting will be held by PhD Patricia Krafcik who will present the magic of Rusyn villages which is often – both in history and nowadays – the basis for various research. The speaker will also refer to some folklorists’ works: Russian Petr Bogatyrev and Ukrainian – Michael Kocjubynskyj.
The Carpathians are one of the biggest mountains in the middle Europe, located at the borders of eight countries: Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Ukraine, Romania and Serbia. Their northern part is a territory of the Carpathian Rus’ – geographical and ethnic environment of the Carpathian Rusyns. Today, within the historical Carpathian Rus’, three bigger regions can be distinguished: The Subcarpathian Rus’ (south-east part), the Presovian Rus’ (south) and Lemkovyna (northern part). They are located within the territories of Poland, Slovakia, Ukraine, as well as today’s Hungary and Romania.
