15.000 zl of award for preservation of wooden monuments in the Lesser Poland

The Lesser Poland Voivodeship would like to appreciate those who deal with preservation of monuments of the wooden architecture in the Lesser Poland. Until 20 March 2017, applications can be submitted for the Award of Marian Kornecki, for eminent achievements within preservation of wooden churches, manors or farms which, thanks to attention, have been renovated and included in the most precious monuments of national culture in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship.

There were various activities taken up by the caregivers of the monuments that could have been taken into consideration by the Jury. The activities could refer only to a proper maintenance and usage of an object, counteracting dangers that could have negative influence on a monument. Further, it could be also adaptation of objects for new functions related to tourism, culture, science, as well as accommodation or taking up some other activity. Conservatorial, renovation or building works could be taken  into consideration, research on them and documentation, as well as promotional activities. Also, cultural-educational projects that promote the wooden heritage of the Lesser Poland lands could be awarded.

The laureate will be granted 15.000zl and a statue. Apart from that, three other candidates may be distinguished. The award can be applied for by non-governmental institutions and organizations, cultural institutions, associations, companies tha deal with art preservation, some conservators, universities, churches and offices.

In the last two years, the laureates were Orthodox priests that take care of Lemko churches: in 2015 priest Mirosław Cidyło and in 2016 – priest Władysław Kaniuk. Priest M. Cidyło was awarded for renovation and adaptation of the old presbytery building into the Parish Historical-Nature Museum and for carrying out conservatorial and renovation works in three churches: in Bartne, Bodaki and Wołowiec. Priest Kaniuk was awarded for protection of 5 churches which he managed in the last 20 years as a parish priest in different places, in particular he was distinguished for renovation of the church of Protection of the Mother of God in Hańczowa.
